Farewell Dinner Last Night – Ready To Start My New Life

The day is approaching, and this is my final weekend in San Francisco, where I have been living for more than 10 years. Starting next Thursday, I’ll start (or restart, whatever it will be) a new life in Macau.

Last night, I, along with five of my best friends and IDTV crew members, gathering at the Cava 22 restaurant for a farewell dinner. I’m very pleased that they could all make it and come to see me one last time. At the restaurant, we were drinking, we were chatting and we had a lot of fun. Of course, I was the main character last night, they were asking me what I’m going to do in Macau, what does Macau look like, and how is the climate of Macau, etc. Then each of them encouraged me to start my new life in Macau. One said the economy over the Greater China region (that includes the Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau) is generally growing, especially in Macau, the economy is boosting like a rocket, in contrast to the US, where the economy is not growing and even shrinking and with a lot of uncertainties. The thing is when the economy is growing, people have extra money. When people have got extra money, people will likely look for some people to do something great, then I’ll get a lot of opportunities to work on anything. He also told me that I have a number of unique advantage that not many people have. He said there’s not a lot of Asian, Chinese, and even someone who is Macau working on media production industry in the US. I know the people in the industry and some people have already known who I’m and what I’m doing. As a Chinese or Macanese, being in America is not easy already, but I could make myself into the circle of the US media industry in just two years and build up a professional network here, there’s only very few people can actually do that. I know, and I also have that feeling too because I came to the SuperMeet, the biggest annual networking event for professional video producers, editors, motion graphic artists, animators, etc. What I saw right there, there was very small number of video professionals who has an Asian face, and I’m the one of them, I should feel proud of myself. Another friend was also pointing out my advantage, he said I have been living here in the US for a decade, and I speak fluent English, I know the people who works in media production industry in San Francisco, I know how San Francisco looks like. With all of that I could play a role of a bridge between media production industry in San Francisco and media production industry in Macau.

I know I’m still having questions and doubts about my new life in Macau, but they were all telling me the same thing, don’t be afraid, don’t be freaked out. As my other friend saying, the things right now seem negative but it will actually become positive. Sure I think it will be!

Generally speaking I have worked in the media production industry and am able to make my name in there in a short period of time, I have got a professional network in the US, I’m talented and I have bunch of skills, so I’m not actually going to Macau with empty-handed. Yes, I know, I don’t have a lot of money, but I have a bunch of unique advantages and essential knowledge for the media production industry, then what should I afraid of?

Thank you for all my friends who came to see me one last time and saying goodbye to me last night, I know I’ll be missing all of you, you’re the most fantastic people who I have met or worked with. I’ll never forget all the good time we had, and I would just want to say once again – Thank you, thank you very much.

Let’s keep in touch, my friends, soon I’ll be seeing you and give my support to all of you 6900 miles away, on the other side of Pacific Ocean. Come visit me in Macau, and I’ll be your guide. All right?

BTW, I’ll be missing her too…

This e-mail is the last in a series you will receive reminding you that you have indeed reserved a seat, and to inform you as to what to expect when you get to the MBCC on Friday January 27, 2012.

Please read the following carefully as it will answer most of your questions and prepare you for your session(s).
Note: Everything is subject to change.

Currently there are a seats left for the Canon, Blackmagic Resolve and Light Iron sessions. All Adobe sessions are filled to capacity and a wait list will be available on site Friday morning. Tell a friend!

What if I need to cancel?
If for any reason you need to cancel please forward your ticket to someone you love and will use it. We cannot issue refunds.

Arrival
Arrive at the Mission Bay Conference Center at least 20 minutes before your class begins with a printed copy of your workshop ticket. (if you lost it do not worry. Just give your name) Head for the 2nd floor and sign in for your designated class(s). Eat a good meal before you arrive. There is a Cafe at the MBCC open from 8AM until 8PM and sandwich shops nearby should you be hungry. Coffee and Tea and water will be available throughout the day, or until we run out.

If you have purchased a ticket to the SuperMeet, you can pick up your badge and raffle tickets at the same table. Bring your SuperMeet Ticket confirmation or your name.

Each classroom seats 40 people and will be set up theater style which means if you want to bring your laptop it will have to rest on your lap and be fully charged.

There is FREE wifi available at the MBCC. But it’s slow and spotty.

SuperMeet Update
If you have NOT purchased a ticket to the SuperMeet we urge you to do so, assuming you can attend. It is the SuperMeet ticket sales that allow us to offer these affordable workshops. Tickets will be available on site Friday.

As of this writing we have plenty of tickets left for the SuperMeet and need all the help we can get to sell them. Our Marketing budget is “no budget,” so we need to rely on each other to get the word out. Tell everyone you know about the SuperMeet. Let’s fill this place up.

SuperMeet Digital Showcase
The doors open to the SuperMeet Digital Showcase featuring 26 vendors and Open Screen Theater at about 3:30PM, so there will be lots to do and watch and lots of people to hang with if you find yourself having nothing to do in the afternoon. The agenda is set and a current list of raffle prizes,(over 33K worth) and a link to buy tickets can be found on the SuperMeet web page.

Please make arrival and departure plans since not everything runs all night. Also parking at the MBCC costs a bunch of money as is typical in San Francisco so prepare for that.

That’s about it for now. If you have any questions or concerns simply write us.

Workshops during the day and SuperMeet at night. It’s going to be a great way to spend a Friday in San Francisco.

See you Friday, January 27, 2012 and tell everyone you know to get their tickets for the SuperMeet.

Doors will open at 3:30PM for the HUGE SuperMeet Digital Showcase and Open Screen Theater and SuperMeet presentations begin at 7:00PM.

This email contains essentially the same info as the last 2 emails. But read it anyway. It will give you all you need to know.

If for any reason you cannot attend the SuperMeet simply forward your ticket confirmation email to someone you love and let them attend on your behalf. If you lost your ticket confirmation email, no worries. Just state your name at the ticket registration desk when you arrive. Do your best to attend this event. Yo uwill not want to miss it!

Please read the following carefully so you know what to expect. Come with a smile on your face and a desire to learn and meet one another. Chances are you will have a memorable time.

Those of you who arrive at the SuperMeet before 5:00PM will get 2 extra raffle tickets, so plan on getting to the SuperMeet early. You will want too. There are 26 software and hardware developers to visit with and many of them are making really good deals.

SUPERMEET WORKSHOPS
There are still seats left for the Blackmagic Design Resolve, Light Iron and Canon and Workshop sessions. Grab them while you can:

http://sf2012workshops.eventbrite.com/

OPEN SCREEN THEATER. GET SEEN! BRING YOUR VIDEO AND SHOW IT!
For the third time ever we have added an exciting component to the SuperMeet. You will be able to showcase your video in what we are calling the “Open Screen Theater.” Here is how it works.

* Show up early and bring your content on a DVD or a h.264 file on a thumb-drive. (No streaming or huge uncompressed files)

* Make a mad dash to the Open Screen Theater inside the Fisher Banquet Room where the SuperMeet Digital Showcase is located.

* Sign up and wait your turn. Your movie can be no longer than 10 minutes.

* There will be someone to play your video.

* We have a 13-ft screen 7K lumens 1024×768 native projector.

* Audio will be available, but your video will NOT be able to be played loud so as to not overwhelm the room. The more visual your video, the better it will play to those watching.

* Make sure you have your contact info on your video. You never know who will be watching.

* Be courageous. Show off! Sign up for the Open Screen Theater.
